Cufflinks |
- Costume: A close up tells us that he is wearing a suit and cufflinks to show that he is very masculine as the older and dominant male. A medium tilt up shot displays that the female is wearing a shirt looks 'ready for a night out'. It is not immediately obvious is what the two characters are connected due to their appearance suggesting their age but as soon as valentines day is mentioned then is becomes clear.

Costume |
You can tell by his facial expressions that he has given up with her and that he has finally realised that he might be 'too old' for her. The director has done this so the audience will start to either judge him or feel sorry for the main character.

Night club |
-
The urban night club setting shows the age of her compared to the age of the man.
Also, the settings change is a jump cut as they are happening at different times, however there is still the conversation (dialogue) going over the top of the images. The blurred edges in the shots have been added in post production to show the audience that this is what has already happened. This is the point where the director has forced the opinion of the audience whether they think what the girl is doing, is right or wrong.
